Diane Ravitch is the author of several books including "Left Back: A Century of Battles Over School Reform."
Ms. Ravitch served as assistant secretary in charge of research in the U.S. Department of Education during the first Bush administration and later was appointed to the National Assessment Governing Board by Bill Clinton.
She is currently an historian and research professor at New York University and a Nonresident Senior Fellow at Brookings Institution.
